Pixar’s Ed Catmull on books that shaped him
On his blog, Tim Ferris writes “Who are the mentors to billionaires, chess prodigies, rockstars, and mega-bestselling authors? Who teaches them to do what they do? To achieve the success they achieve? Oftentimes… it’s books.”
One of the questions Ferris asks guests on his podcast is “What book have you gifted most often to others, and why?”
When Ferris asked Ed Catmull (co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios along with Steve Jobs and John Lasseter – and president of Pixar Animation and Disney Animation) this question, Catmull listed three books – two of them by Joseph Campbell: The Hero’s Journey and The Hero with a Thousand Faces.
