Filmmaker Alexandre Philippe’s documentary, Memory: The Origins of Alien, dives deep into the making of the classic movie but also explores the mythic aspects of the franchise and how those mythical motifs are linked to ideas popularized by Joseph Campbell. Philippe has offered thanks to the Joseph Campbell Foundation in the credits of the film as well as in several press interviews. JCF associate, Will Linn, PhD, appears in the film discussing the implications of Campbell’s ideas on Alien, and has continued to work alongside Philippe throughout the creation of the project, bringing a mythical lens to a number of live screenings of the documentary, as well. Linn can be heard discussing the mythological roots of the film in this interview Philippe did with NPR.
